The Castle Chimney
- same address, new flavor

The Castle Chimney was born inside a building rich with history: a former neighborhood cinema built in 1925, where generations of families gathered to share laughter, stories and timeless films.

Here, in the heart of Chalkstone Avenue, the glow of the marquee has faded - but a new light has been kindled: the aroma of freshly baked chimney cakes, the warmth of handcrafted coffee, the sweetness of ice cream melting into memory.

Today, this space - once known as the Castle Theater - has been lovingly reimagined, bringing back the same spirit of community, now with a new flavor: a fusion of tradition and creativity, of vintage charm and cultural soul.

You are sitting in a place rescued from silence, reborn with purpose, where every bite is part of a story still being written.

- Thank you for being part of this new chapter.

A brief history

The chimney cake,
since 1450.

The kürtőskalács traces its roots to Central Europe, where it has been spun over open fire for more than five centuries before arriving on Chalkstone Avenue.

1450
First mention

A Heidelberg manuscript describes dough wrapped in a spiral around a cylinder and baked over hot coals - the earliest known chimney cake.

1784
First Transylvanian recipe

Countess Mária Mikes of Zabola publishes the first written Transylvanian recipe - still without added sugar.

1795
Sweetened after baking

The idea of sweetening the cake after it leaves the fire takes hold across Central Europe.

1876
The caramel breakthrough

Terézia Dolecskó's cookbook is the first to put sugar on the dough before baking - and the famous caramelized glaze is born.

20th c.
Toppings & technique

Walnut, coconut, cinnamon and cocoa become beloved finishes. In Szeklerland, rolling the cylinder over sugar perfects the smooth, golden surface we know today.

Today
Providence, RI

The chimney cake travels to Chalkstone Avenue - soft inside, caramelized outside, paired with espresso, ice cream and the warmth of a new home.
